John and Davy Quinlivan are brothers who are both gay. They wanted to make a video to share with everyone the reasons why they are voting yes in the marriage equality referendum. John is in a Civil Partnership with his partner after spending over 10 years together. Davy hopes one day to be able to marry the man he loves – equality is all this referendum is about – no more, no less.
In 2009 our sister got married to the man that she loves and last year my brother had a civil partnership with the man he loves. Both days were filled with family, fun, laughter, wine: everything you could ask for. Our family views all of us as equal, but unfortunately in the eyes of the state, my brother’s relationship and any future relationship I have is viewed as less than my sister’s. And for that reason, I am voting yes on May 22nd.
