Emma works in Brussels with an LGBTI equality organisation and is looking forward to heading back to Donegal to cast her vote. She feels it is time for Ireland to give constitutional protection to all families, time to cast off the labels that society has previously put on gay and lesbian relationships and time to make a wee bit of history.
‘We are ready. It is time for us in Ireland to take gay and lesbian couples, and their relationships, out of the box that we have put them into. That box that’s labelled ‘other’, or ‘different’, or ‘special’ but just not quite special enough to be called ‘marriage.’ It’s time for us to show that we are warm and open and inclusive as a nation.’
