Aoife McCullough is from Co Meath and in her video talks about the debates which this referendum has prompted within her family. Aoife has a gay sister and describes how their mother had a strongly traditional view of marriage as being between a man and a woman. Like many families across Ireland, the referendum has prompted Aoife and her family to address these differences of opinion and to embrace love and understanding over fear. Happily Aoife’s Mam will be voting yes for her daughter on Friday.

“I think my mother’s decision to vote yes is a brave one. Although she has a strong personal opinions on marriage, she won’t allow that to prevent other people from marrying whom they wish. By voting yes on Friday, you’re allowing each and every citizen in Ireland to decide whom they wish to marry. By voting no, you’re deciding for them.”
